Tellima grandiflora – Fringecups – Saxifragaceae (western North America)
Habit: Clump or thicket-like, spreading out quickly with seeds; peduncles may need staking.
Size: Leaf tufts 15-30 cm, peduncles 50-70 cm high.
Flowers: Small, fringed cups, yellowish green, reddish hints, lined up like a pearl necklace in upright racemes; May to June, intensely sweet smelling at dusk.
Leaves: Round, slightly lobed, grass-green, early shoots, dense leaf carpets.
Demands: Semi-shade to shade, cool and humid, robust and competitive.
Soil: Fresh to damp, tolerates floods, frost hardy; humic, moderately nutritious, sandy or pure loam.
