Strelizia reginae (South Africa)
Habit: Tall, stemless plant with strong rhizomes, up to 2 m tall, forming groups.
Flowers: Boat-shaped, bent upwards, green, often red to blue-violet, waxy, pointed bracts, 12 cm long, 10 cm long flowers with orange-yellow perianths and blue crown, winter to spring.
Fruit: Tripartite capsules with many seeds.
Leaves: Leathery, elongated-ovoid, smooth, red middle nerve on a coarse stem, densely packed, like banana leaves, up to 1.5 m long.
