Stephanandra tanakae (Japan)
Habit: Usually a loose, small shrub, 1.2-1.5 m, rarely up to 2 m tall and wide; overhanging switch-like twigs; slow-growing.
Flowers: Numerous white, loose panicles after leaves shoot, June to July.
Leaves: Broadly ovoid to cordate with long tips, fresh green, autumn colours orange to brown-red.
Twigs: Bent back and forth, thin, conspicuously cinnamon-red; twigs short-lived, should be thinned out often.
Demands: Sun to light shade, likes warmth, usually frost hardy.
Soil: Fresh to moist, any garden soil.
