Pinus aristata – Bristlecone Pine (western North America)
Habit: A conical small tree, sometimes shrub-like, 2-6 (8) m tall, 1-2 (5) m wide, branches bent upwards, old plants asymmetrically extended; extremely slow-growing.
Fruits: Small, 4-9 cm long, cylindrical cones.
Leaves: Five needles, blue green with flakes of resin in between.
Roots: Deep roots.
Demands: Full sunlight, does not tolerate shade; tolerates heat and cold; wind resistant.
Soil: Dry to fresh, acidic to alkaline, only well drained, gravely substrates.
