Habit: Large rounded shrub, 250-300 cm tall, 150-200 cm wide, densely branched.
Flowers: Milky white, tube-shaped, in axillary groups, stamens scarcely longer, delightful sweet scent, numerous, April to May.
Fruits: Drupes, ovate to rotund, 1-1.5 cm longs, black-blue, pruinate.
Leaves: Evergreen, elliptic to oblong ovate, dark green, glossy, margins varyingly serrate.
Demands: Sun to semi-shade, needs protection from midday sun, frost sensitive, demands shelter from wind.
Soil: Fresh to moist, sandy-loamy, acidic to neutral.
Note: In China and Japan flowers are used to flavour tea and dessert.
Our advice: Takes well to cutting, suitable for low hedges.
