Malus floribunda – Japanese Crab (Japan)
Habit: Splendid small tree, 5-8 m wide and tall; wider than tall when old; twigs slightly overhanging.
Flowers: Plentiful, buds dark pink, light pink when opening, finally white, seeming two-tone overall, flowering all year, May, pleasant fragrance.
Fruits: Some 1 cm long, round, yellow or often red, edible but tasteless.
Leaves: Elliptical, yellowish green in autumn.
Roots: Cordate roots.
Demands: Sun to shade, frost hardy.
Soil: Fresh to moist; sensitive to dampness, slightly acidic to alkaline, in all loamy substrates.
