Lonicera nitida ‘Elegant’
(= L. pileata yunnanensis)
Habit: Quite varying small shrub with dense shoots, 1-1.5 (2) m tall and wide, twigs stiffly upright, lateral twigs horizontal and arching, taking root easily on contact with the ground; slow-growing.
Flowers: Inconspicuous cream-white, slightly fragrant little flowers, May.
Fruits: Shiny crimson-violet, hardly conspicuous as hidden by the leaves.
Leaves: Semi-evergreen or evergreen, ovoid-round, small, leathery, pale dark or black green.
Demands: Sun to semi-shade, shade tolerance often overestimated; tolerates heat, usually frost hardy, damage heals well; not demanding, tolerant of urban pollution.
Soil: Any garden soil.
Note: Tolerates any cutting.
