Habit: Twining climber, 2-4 m tall, 2-3 m wide; up to 1.5 m, only slightly twining, also a loose shrub; support diameter 02.-1 cm; medium to fast-growing, 20-70 cm a year.
Flowers: Buds carmine, flowers carmine-pink on the outside and white inside, yellow when withering, in terminal whorls, June, some second blossoms; sweet, far-reaching fragrance, like vanilla.
Fruits: Rare, pea-size, red, unpalatable.
Leaves: Elliptical, bluish green, coarse.
Demands: (Sun) light shade to semi-shade, likes warmth, sensitive to heat and drought, usually frost hardy.
Soil: Fresh to moist; any garden soil.
