Habit: Hemispheric flowering shrub, 1.5-2 m tall and wide.
Leaves: Deciduous, more delicate than the leaves of Hydrangea macrophylla, acuminate, ovate, up to 10 cm long, serrate margins, dark green to dark red-brown above, light green beneath, no autumn colour.
Flowers: Delicate, flat corymb with white to blue or pink florets, small fertile flowers, purple to blueish, varying depending on soil pH.
Demands: Sun to semi shade, protected, frost hardy.
Soil: Fresh to moist but well-drained nutritious soil rich in humus, acidic to neutral, avoids chalk.
