Euonymus japonicus (Japan)
Habit: Medium to large shrub, 2-4 (5) m tall, 3-5 m wide, upright, many shoots, dense, moderately fast-growing, 20-30 cm a year.
Flowers: Inconspicuous, whitish green, May to June.
Fruits: Capsules light pink to white, seeds conspicuous orange, plentiful in favourable areas; poisonous.
Leaves: Evergreen, elliptical, shiny dark green, thick leathery.
Demands: Sun to shade, tolerates heat, needs warmth, sensitive to frost, extremely wind resistant, good for urban areas; tolerates salty air.
Soil: Moderately dry to fresh, slightly acidic to alkaline, any good garden soil, moderately tolerant of salt.
Our tip: Takes very well to cutting and can be used in topiary or on trellises.
