Cotinus coggygria ‘Royal Purple’
Habit: Smaller than the normal variety, 2-3 m tall, slower growth.
Flowers: Red to silvery inflorescences (dioecious), from June on.
Fruits: Splendid syncarpy like cotton, August to September.
Leaves: Late shoots, black-red, then metallic-shiny and dark red; red to orange-red in October.
Demands: See C. coggygria.
Soil: Only on well drained soil, sensitive to frost on heavy soil.
Note: Cut back yearly (end of March) to 40 cm to create stiffly upright sprouts some 1.5 m long with very large leaves in shimmring bluish black-red.
