Cornus controversa (= C. brachypoda ) (eastern Asia)
Habit: Picturesque, broadly conical, fast-growing small tree or large shrub, 6-8 (10) m tall, 4-6 m wide; horizontally extended or somewhat vertical twig layers.
Flowers: Cream-white umbels after leaves shoot, end of May to beginning of June.
Fruits: Brownish to blue-black berries from September on.
Leaves: Oval, shiny dark green, violet brown to pale yellow autumn colours, end of September.
Roots: Shallow, sensitive to drought.
Demands: Sunny to semi-shady; usually frost hardy, sensitive to dry air.
Soil: Moist to fresh organic soil, slightly acidic to neutral; sensitive to dry soil.
