Clematis viticella (southern Europe)
Habit: Petiole climber/trellis climber, 2-4 (6) m tall, 2-3 m wide; dense twigs, support diameter 0.2-0.5 cm; medium to fast-growing, 40-70 (120) cm a year.
Flowers: Blue-violet to crimson-pink, 20 cm long stems, single ones nodding; bell-shaped to flatly extended, four sepals, June to September, numerous.
Leaves: Early shoots, usually doubly pinnate, leaflets oval, medium-green.
Demands: Sun to semi-shade, likes warmth, frost hardy; fresh to moist; neutral to very alkaline; sandy-humic to loamy, nutritious substrates, sensitive to wind.
Note: Overhanging, draped, up to 2 m long.
