Clematis alpina (central Europe)
Habit: Petiole climber/trellis climber, 1-5-2 (3) m tall, habit width 1-3 m; thin shoots like a spider’s web; support diameter 0.2-0.5 cm; slow-growing, 10-15 cm a year.
Flowers: Small, bell-shaped, violet-blue, May to beginning of June.
Leaves: In threes, lanceolate leaflets, pale green.
Demands: Light shade to semi-shade, sun only in cool, humid areas, frost hardy, needs wind protection.
Soil: Moderately dry to fresh, acidic to alkaline; sandy or gravelly-humic loam.
Note: Overhanging, draped, 1-2 m long.
