Buddleia alternifolia (China)
Habit: Broad, overhanging shrub, often draped; 2-4 m tall and wide; fast-growing.
Flowers: Plentiful, lavender flower clusters on shoots several years old; June; pungent smell from afar.
Leaves: Dull green to silvery grey-green, like willow; no autumn colours.
Demands: Likes sun, very good shrub for heat, but also frost hardy, prefers moderately dry, well drained, chalky soil, adaptable, good for urban areas.
Note: Takes well to pruning, such as on trellises or south-facing walls, but cutting limits number of flowers.
