Habit: Often multi-stemmed large shrub or small tree, 3-5 m tall, 1-1.5 m wide, juvenile plants straight upright with columnar habit.
Flowers: Numerous, compact, white flowering racemes, from the end of April until May.
Fruits: Blueish black, juicy, sugary, edible.
Leaves: Elliptic, alder-like, shoots first copper coloured, then medium green, yellow to blazing orange red autumn colour, October.
Demands: Sun to light shade, frost hardy, resistant to urban climates.
Soil: All nutritious soils, fresh to moist, moderately resistant to drought.
