Albizia julibrissin – Leguminosae (= A. kalkora) (Asia)
Habit: A large, spreading shrub or small tree, 5-6 m tall, 4-6 m wide, gracious, roundish, oval crown, slow-growing when young.
Flowers: Like pompons, yellow-green, fragrant flower heads, stamen extended, pink; summer.
Leaves: Deciduous, finely pinnate, fern-like, 30-45 cm long, single leaflets only a few millimetres long, soft yellow-green, folding up like mimosa at night.
Demands: Full sun, sheltered, sensitive to frost, cold house, does not tolerate great fluctuations in temperature, responds well to pruning.
Natural habitat: Well drained, not too nutritious garden soil.
