Habit: Large shrub to small tree, 5-7 (10) m tall, 5 – 7 m wide, multi-stemmed, main branches loosely upright, twigs overhanging, crown widening with age, slow-growing.
Flowers: Green-white, long peduncled panicles, free flowering, fragrant, honey plant.
Fruits: Red samara, nearly parallel, very decorative red wings, many fruits .
Leaves: Non-lobed, oval, 5 to 10 cm long, light green, non-glossy, dark red to yellow autumn colour.
Demands: Sun to semi-shade, modest, very frost hardy, resistant to smoke, tolerates warmth, resistant to urban climates and wind.
Soil: All soils, dry to fresh, avoids chalky and waterlogged soils.
