Acer capillipes – (Japan)
Habit: Large shrub to small tree, 7-9 (12) m tall, 4-5 m wide, loose crown, branches upright, medium to strong-growing, 20-25 cm a year.
Flowers: Yellowish, hanging racemes, May.
Fruits: Green when ripening, later reddish brown.
Leaves: Three-lobed, shiny dark green on top, lighter underneath with red veins, reddish leaf shoots, bright red autumn colours.
Bark: Twigs and stem green with white stripes.
Demands: Sunny to shady, very frost hardy, good for urban and industrial areas, wind resistant.
Soil: For all soil that is not too chalky, good for humic, nutritious, well drained soil.
Note: One of the most splendid bark types.
