Habit: Small tree or large shrub, 8-10 (15) m tall, 4-5 m wide; small, round, compact crown, branches loosely upright ; medium to fast-growing.
Flowers: Small, yellowish, broadly cone-shaped panicles; May.
Fruits: Glabrous samara with parallel wings of papery tissue.
Leaves: Bronze shoots, shiny dark green in summer, blueish green beneath, three-lobed; striking red or orange in autumn, spectacular.
Bark: Striking orange with age, brown and grey sulcate, segmented.
Roots: Shallow with widespread fine roots.
Demands: No direct sunlight to semi shade, protected habitat; frost hardy, resistant to urban environment.
Soil: Well-drained, slightly acidic.
